Proposed Centre

Construction of Uganda’s First 24-Hour Sickle Cell Care Center

You can help end the suffering of sickle cell patients in Uganda by joining us in this noble cause. Every minute, a child in Uganda loses their life to sickle cell disease. Of the 33,000 babies born with this disease each year, 80% do not live to celebrate their fifth birthday. While the average survival rate in Uganda is less than five years, countries like Jamaica have achieved an average survival of 55 years.

Why we need your Help!!!!

  • There is only one Sickle cell clinic in Uganda and it’s a day care centre, thus the proposed centre we intend to build will serve 24 hours and will be the first of its kind.
  • Often there is patient over flow with lack of any emergency medical equipment at the available sickle cell day care centre.
  • The paediatric and adult patients are all seen in the same room and by a paediatrician.
  • Sickle cell patients get admitted to general wards yet they are prone to infections.
  • Counselling is done less often since the clinic does not have provision for counselling, yet it is very necessary and is done voluntarily by SAU staff in the waiting area.
  • Sickle cell Association of Uganda is now located at Kawanda – Namalere Bombo Road and this is where the new Sickle cell centre will be constructed
